Council tax collection rates amongst the highest in the Capital

Published 16th January 08

Harrow's Council Tax and Business Rate collection levels are amongst the highest in London, according to the latest figures.

Collecting local taxes is crucial for providing excellent services and delivering value for money to residents.

By the end of March, Harrow expects to have collected 97% of the council tax - one of the highest in London and well above the London average achieved in 2006/07 of 95.1%.

Councillor Paul Osborn, Portfolio Holder for Strategy and Business Support said:

"We have worked hard over the past year to maximise the amount of money that we collect from council tax and am very proud that we are amongst the most stringent in London.

"Unless we collect local taxes, we would not be able to pay for crucial services such as bin collections, social care, and libraries.

"Those people who don't pay leave the rest of us to foot the bill. This is unacceptable and we will do everything in our power to recover any outstanding debt."
