Community safety
Neighbourhood Watch Community Involvement Officer
The Community Involvement Officer is responsible for the co-ordination and maintenance of the Harrow Neighbourhood Watch (HNW) Database and the Harrow Police Ringmaster System (a computerised messaging system).
The Community Involvement Officer is also responsible for ordering crime prevention literature from the Home Office and works for the Harrow Crime Prevention Panel (HCPP) on a voluntary basis, helping vulnerable residents in Harrow feel safer by fitting additional security to their homes. The officer is also involved with the Neighbourhood Watch Street scheme. Neighbourhood Watch is about looking out for each other. Neighbours uniting and acting together means that dozens of eyes and ears are ready to pick up on anything happening in your neighbourhood that could cause worry or concern. It's not about being nosy or interfering, it's about being a good neighbour and caring about your community.
Some insurance companies offer a discount on your home insurance if you are a member of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
If you are in need of help and are ill, elderly, or on benefits, the HCPP may be able to assist you. They can supply and fit basic locks, bolts, door chains and door viewers etc. at a discounted rate. If you would like to receive help from the HCPP, please contact the Police Crime Reduction Unit and they will refer you - contact details on the right.
HNW members are also entitled to receive up to date information about crime trends by signing up to the Ringmaster messaging system, which is a free service. This delivers a voice message over the phone, at a time and day convenient to you.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) is currently offering a free service to help the elderly and infirm. This coincides with their current advertising campaign. They will supply and install smoke alarms free of charge where needed. If you or someone you know needs a smoke alarm contact them on the number on the right.
