The London Plan and National Policy
The London Plan and National Planning Policy
The Mayor published the replacement spatial development strategy for London (the London Plan) on 22 July 2011. Previous versions now have no formal effect.
The London Plan is the overall strategic plan for London, setting out how the capital should develop over the next 20 years. In a change from the previous version of the Plan, many of its policies contain provisions that are applicable in Harrow. The policies are also used by the Mayor to determine applications referable to him.
Harrow's development plans must be in general conformity with the London Plan and national Government's strategic planning policy. These policy documents are also used to help guide decisions on certain planning applications. It is the current Governments intention to replace the current suite of planning policy statements with one, consolidated National Planning Policy Framework. Until this framework is adopted, current planning policy statements will continue to be used.
