Young carers

Who is a young carer?

Young carers are generally family members or friends who, do not get paid for caring, and regularly look after someone who wouldn't be able to manage daily tasks without their help and assistance.

A Young carer can be described as a child/young person (under age 18 years) who regularly carries out various tasks and assuming some level of responsibility for another person, which would usually be carried out by an adult.

Young carers generally care for members of their immediate family who may have an illness, disability, mental health problem or a dependency on alcohol or drugs.
