Year 3 to Year 11 appeals
If you are not satisfied with the result of the appeal
The admission appeal procedures are designed to ensure that all parents have had a fair hearing.
The decision of the Appeal Panel is binding on the Local Authority and there is no further right of appeal. You do have the right to refer the matter to the Secretary of State for Education and Employment.
However, it is important to understand that the Secretary of State can only intervene in certain circumstances where s/he considers the Local Authority has acted unreasonably. The definition of 'unreasonable' action covers very limited/specific circumstances. The Secretary of State's address is:
Department for Education and Skills
Sanctuary Buildings
Great Smith Street
LONDON SW1 3BT
If you feel that the proper procedures were not followed in the way your appeal was handled, you can ask the Commissioner for Local Administration (sometimes called the Local Ombudsman) to investigate.
The Ombudsman's address is:
Local Government Ombudsman
The Oaks No 2
Westwood Way
Westwood Business Park
Coventry CV4 8JB
