Street lights

Reporting faulty street lighting

4,000 street lights are used to illuminate roads and footpaths within the borough.

Every year approximately 150 street lights, illuminated signposts and bollards have to be replaced due to damage caused by road traffic accidents.

Maintainance
Harrow Council is responsible for maintaining existing street lighting and improving lighting. All street lights, illuminated signs and bollards are checked by an inspection team once every two weeks in winter (October to March) and every four weeks in summer.

  • The time scale for the repair of identified faults is:
  • 24 hours for illuminated bollards and belisha beacons
  • Three working days for street lights and illuminated signs
  • Any exposed electrical hazard will be made safe within two hours of notification
  • Faults caused by an electricity supply failure will be reported directly to the electricity company, who are then responsible for the repair.

Reporting faults

The quickest way to report a faulty street light is by using our online form - top right of this page.

  EMERGENCIES

In an EMERGENCY involving streetlights or traffic lights DO NOT use the online form.  Instead call the council by phone - please use the numbers listed on the right.

To prevent unnecessary delay please give as many details as possible:

  • Is the fault directly outside a house or on the opposite footway?
  • What is the house number?
  • What is the street light identification number?
