Someone "contaminated" my bin
Definition of 'contaminated'
Contaminated' is an industry term that simply means the wrong type of waste has been put in the bin. It does not imply unhygienic or hazardous.
Specifically, it means that a waste item that can't be recycled has been put in the blue bin and something that won't compost down has been put in the brown bin. As a result, the content of the bin can't be put through the intended recycling process.
The incorrect items must be removed from the bin.
Remember that it is compulsory to recycle garden waste (in the brown bin) and paper, glass, cans and plastic bottles (in the blue bin). If these are placed in your waste bin (green or grey bin), the bin may not be collected due to it being contaminated with the wrong type of waste.
You can do one of the following:
-
Remove the contamination and await the next collection
-
Take the waste to the Waste, Reuse and Recycling Centre in Wealdstone
-
Pay £31.50 for an additional collection - we will arrange collection within 2 working days - however we only advise this as a last resort
