School amalgamation policy

In October 2007, Harrow Cabinet agreed an amended Amalgamation Policy. The amended policy requires governing bodies to amalgamate two separate infant and junior schools when one or more of the trigger circumstances arise unless there are compelling and over-riding reasons not to.

In September 2008, Harrow Council consulted on a clarified amalgamation policy document and policy guidance to support those schools implementing the policy. Cabinet agreed the clarified documents at its meeting on 23 October 2008. 

The policy remains unchanged in respect of the circumstances when schools are required to amalgamate unless there are compelling and over-riding reasons not to.
