Starting a new business

Before starting a new business, the owner must be aware of all legal responsibilities and make sure they are met BEFORE opening. Further information can be found on the Food Standards website or looking at our "Starting up a food business" information booklet.

Registering a new or changed business

All new food business must register at least 28 days before it opens and obligation to register rests with the owner or proprietor of the business. It is an offence for an existing food business not to be registered and failure to do so may result in prosecution. More details are given in our pages on Registration of food businesses.
