Food safety inspections & complaints

What was the score?

In October 2007 Harrow, and many other London Boroughs started publishing the results of their food safety inspections. These can be viewed at www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk,  www.yourlondon.gov.uk  and www.food.gov.uk/scores

Food businesses* are now given a score at their main inspection. These range from NO STARS (Awful) up to FIVE STARS (Excellent).

Of course, the score is just a snap shot on one day. Things may have changed since that inspection. Poor ones may have now done the improvements that the inspectors demanded. And good ones may have got worse. Business can send comments about their score which will be added to the website.

Businesses will be given a certificate and a sticker they can display on the premises if they wish.

This Scores on the Doors scheme is expected to spread across the country in the future, though not all areas use a 0 - 5 star scoring system.

*Scores are not being shown if:

  • being run from home eg child minders
  • last inspected before 2006
  • inspected in the past 2 weeks
  • rated as a low risk type of trade eg sweet shop
