Local councillors
Local councillors are elected by the community to decide how the council should carry out its various activities. As well as forming part of the Council's decision-making process, councillors also form an essential link between the Council and the constituents they represent. As such, councillors may be contacted by constituents and some councillors hold regular "surgeries" in their wards.
Councillors are not paid a salary for their work but they do, however, receive an allowance designed to recompense them for the work which they undertake.
