Residential care - adult

We aim to support you to live in your own home for as long as possible. However, there may come a time when you find you can no longer manage to look after yourself there, even with support from home care services.

Once you have decided that you can no longer live in your own home there are some other options for you to consider:

  • sheltered housing (your own flat, but with a warden on-site)
  • extra care housing (your own flat, but with a warden and care staff on-site)
    or
  • a residential care home.

This information page gives you more information about residential care

You can stay in residential care for a short time (known as respite care), over a longer period or permanently.

A residential care home provides accommodation, meals and personal care. Personal care can include such things as assistance in getting up or going to bed, eating, washing, dressing, and using the toilet.

You would stay in a comfortable, furnished room (in some places you could bring your own furniture with you) and staff are available 24 hours a day.
