Schools - holiday schemes

Holiday playschemes

Holiday playschemes operate during the main school holidays; children are left in the care of staff working at a centre. Playschemes are usually open daily but you will need to check exact opening hours with individual schemes.

All holiday playschemes that take children under the age of eight years and operate for longer than two hours per day should be registered and inspected by Ofsted (the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills).

The Department for Education and Skills (DFES) sets out the maximum interval for all types of childcare inspections including playschemes. This is currently three years. Ofsted has developed a series of prompts for early inspection within the three-year interval.

Inspection reports are available to view at the playscheme or on the Ofsted website.

You can download a list of holiday playschemes here or call Harrow Families Information Service.
