Discretionary Housing Payment
The Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP) is a scheme provided by central government and administered by the council to give more help with housing costs to people experiencing hardship, including those affected by Welfare Reform.
The payment will only be provided where we decide that you require help with housing costs, such as additional support with rent, deposits and removal costs. You will only be entitled to DHPs if you are entitled to housing benefit or Universal Credit; you are responsible for rent payments and need more financial help with housing costs.
Who is eligible?
To find out if you are eligible for DHP please go to the further info section.
When to apply?
You should apply for DHP as soon as you know the benefits you are receiving and any other income will not be enough for you to pay your rent.
