When you are temporarily away from your home
When you are receiving housing benefit and council tax support you are required to be actually living in the property for which you are claiming benefit. There are certain exceptions to this rule which means that some people can continue to claim housing benefit during periods of absence from the property.
Changes to the temporary absence rules
The amount of time you can be away from your home before your housing benefit entitlement is affected will change from 28 July 2016. The change will affect both working age and state pension credit age claimants.
