Food safety in catering (level 2 award)
The food safety in catering course (level 2 award) is designed to give catering professionals a basic level of understanding in hygiene and food preparation.
Last year hundreds of thousands of people suffered from vomiting, diarrhoea and pain as a result of food poisoning, which resulted in about 100,000 needing medical attention.
Those who are employed in the food catering service should be concerned about the level of food hygiene in their business. A case of food poisoning doesn't just affect the victim, the business could lose its reputation and customers, and they may even be prosecuted or sued for compensation.
The government has passed laws which requires catering professionals to have an appropriate knowledge of food hygiene. The food safety in catering course (level 2 award) satisfies this requirement for the majority of food handlers.
