Q: How do I set up my Alexa?
A: For instructions on setting up your Alexa please visit the Amazon help section.

To link Alexa to Harrow Council’s services you need to download the Alexa app and associate your Amazon Alexa account with your address. For more information please see www.harrow.gov.uk/alexa

Q: What can Alexa tell me about my bins?
A: Alexa can provide details on your most recent bin collection, as well as when the next one is due, for each bin type.

Q: What do I have to say to Alexa?
A: When asking a Alexa a question you must begin with: “Alexa ask Harrow council...,” followed by your question. For example:

  • “Alexa ask Harrow Council when will my bin be collected?”
  • “Alexa ask Harrow Council when my blue bin will be collected?”

Q: What if my Alexa won’t work?
A: If you have verified that your device is compatible but are still experiencing problems with Alexa try the following tips:

  1. Force close the app.
  2. Restart your phone or device.
  3. Uninstall and reinstall the app.

 Note: uninstalling the app will cause it to lose any of your preferences. So when you reinstall it it will revert to factory settings.

Q: What if I don’t want to use devise location?
A: When you set up your Alexa you will need to set up an address. This will enable you to get information on things like local weather, time, or any other searches related to your location. A Location will be required when asking the council information about your bin collection days. If you don’t want to use the device location, you can manually set a different address via the website. For further information see the Amazon help page on changing your device location.
