Organising a street party

Get the party started

Break out the bunting - celebrating the Queens Diamond Jubilee and Londons 2012 Olympic Games just got a whole lot easier for Harrow residents.

The Council is waiving its road closure fees to encourage residents to organise street parties, and is offering handy hints and tips too.
It is making sure that cost and convenience are no barrier for residents wanting to celebrate the historic events so will not charge for officer time and advertising the necessary traffic orders to close roads.

If you would like to organise a street party to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee you need to get your applications in by the end of April. Call 020 8424 1884 or email transportation@harrow.gov.uk  to request an application pack.

Resources to help you plan - The Big Lunch can help you plan your street party. Planned to coincide with the Diamond Jubilee you can request organising packs, ideas and more.

For a guide on organising a street party with your local community see our how to guide for videos and more.

Harrow resident Linette Pooley held a street party for the Royal Wedding last year. Here she describes her experience and plans for this year.

"The whole process was so much easier than I thought it would be. The council was very helpful and it was literally just one form. We were talking about it recently and we are thinking about holding another one this year for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. I would recommend it, definitely, it was a lot of fun."

To arrange your party all you need to do is make one simple call to request a no-nonsense form - contact details on the right.

Make sure to start planning early and contact the Council at least four weeks before your event, especially if you think you will want to close the road. This is to ensure that the party takes place in a safe environment and so that the Council can make the necessary safety assessments for each street.

Please note that requests to close roads that are part of a bus route or busy traffic routes will NOT be granted.
