Older Peoples Housing Review

Older People's Housing review

A review of older people's housing took place in 2004-5. We looked at the range of older people's housing in Harrow that we have now and considered what would be needed in the future.

The council's cabinet accepted the recommendations of the review in 2005, and we developed these into an action plan.

Action plan for older people's housing

We developed the action plan with older people's representatives and partners. Some of the key actions are:

  • Keeping service users and their representatives involved and informed about any proposed changes
  • Improving housing advice and options
  • Developing more sheltered housing options - to include enhanced sheltered, leasehold retirement and extra care housing
  • Reviewing allocations policies to specialist housing for older people
  • Improving services to homeowners, the BME community and people with additional health issues (e.g. dementia, learning disability) to ensure their particular needs are met.
