How to complain about excessive noise
Complaints about excessive noise are investigated by the council. We can take action if the noise is considered to be a statutory nuisance.
If you want the council to investigate an incident of noise pollution please follow the steps below:
Whilst Harrow Council can deal with many types of noise from your neighbour, a polite informal approach to your neighbour is often the best way of achieving a remedy, especially as they may not be aware that they are causing a nuisance to their neighbours.
Where this fails or where you are reluctant to approach your neighbour in this way e.g due to a history of violence. We will investigate the problem to see whether it is something that we can deal with under current legislation.
If the noise persists, you can report the noise to the Community Safety team. If you call the team while the noise is going on, you will be contacted by the duty officer (depending on the availability of staff) or case officer. They will be able to provide advice or take action and will respond to your complaint as soon as possible.
In addition you will be asked to keep track of noise by filling in a noise diary.
