Harrow Museum collections

Collection Policy

We are very grateful for any offers of donation to the museum - it is due to this that the museum can accurately reflect the history and heritage of the local area. Thank you for considering Harrow Museum as a permanent destination for your object.

Please note that Harrow Museum only accepts items into the museum collection in order to preserve, safeguard and communicate evidence of cultural heritage from area covered by The London Borough of Harrow. If you wish to donate an object that does not obey this criteria, it is very unlikely to be accepted by Harrow Museum. Due to space issues, we also do not collect duplicates of items already held in the museum collection. Further details of collecting can be found in the Harrow Museum Acquisition and Disposal Policy 2007, which is available on request.

In no circumstances can objects be left at the desk in the Tithe Barn, and front-of-house staff or volunteers will never accept items on this basis as it goes against our collections policies. Harrow Museum follows national and professional standards for object entry into the museum, and therefore only allows trained curatorial staff to accept items. If any object is left at the museum, please note that the museum retains the right to dispose of the object if not collected from the Museum Office within three months.

To speak to a member of curatorial staff who will be able to discuss your object donation, please contact the Museum Manager (and Curator). It would be useful for you to provide as much information about the history of the object as possible when making contact.
