Sunday trading

Restrictions on opening times on Sundays are confined to large shops (defined as those having an internal sales area of over 280 square metres).
These shops must be registered with the council for trading on a Sunday. Legislation no longer requires shops to register for a Sunday Trading licence but there are other conditions that still apply.

Sunday trading hours are controlled by the Sunday Trading Act 1994.
The Act states the type of shop that may open on a Sunday and the number of hours that it may open.
