- Support for teachers
- 2009/10 learning and development framework.
Information on continuing professional development opportunities available to Harrow's school workforce with online booking facility for school staff through their school's Continuing Professional Development Leader. Flexibility and adaptability are available as schools can arrange specific sessions direct with organisers to more closely meet each school's development needs.
Training can be delivered in many forms. Apart from attending courses, individuals may gain development by:
- Helping in different settings
- Working in a variety of classes and ability ranges
- Carrying out project work
- Researching a new educational approach
- 'Shadowing' someone who has a different role in a school
- Visiting another colleague or school to observe
- Acquiring nationally recognised qualifications through a local college or university
- Following a locally designed course.
School support staff should have annual performance or professional development reviews where their training and development needs are discussed.
Sometimes government grant funding is available to support training for new initiatives. These are usually only available to people already working in the schools.
For more information on training and qualifications for people working in schools see www.tda.gov.uk. Many courses will require proof of your basic literacy and numeracy, and many require Level 2 proofs.
