Home improvements – housing renovation grants for private property

Grants are available from Harrow Council to assist owners of long-term empty private properties. The aim is to bring them back into occupation.

Subject to availability of funding, the qualifying criteria are:

• The property has been empty for at least 6 months upon application
• The owner has the ability to contribute additional funds towards the cost of refurbishment
• The refurbishment must bring the property to the decent home standard suitable to rent
• The council will have the right to nominate tenants

The amount of grant assistance awarded depends on the period of nomination rights which owners are prepared to offer the council.
