Food safety
The council's Community Safety Service is responsible for maintaining standards in many aspects of food and animal health and agriculture.
Manufacturers, caterers and retailers of food are regularly inspected to ensure that:
- Food businesses are registered
- Food handlers are properly trained
- Food is correctly labelled and described and meets quality standards
- Premises meet strict hygiene standards
- Infectious disease such as food poisoning is controlled
