Risk Assessments
Risk Assessments
- There are two risk assessment models used by professionals in Harrow
and supported by Harrow Council through training and care pathways. The
DV-RAM model is for use with adult victims 18+ and the Barnados Model
is for use where children are present in the family/household
- Please note, risk assessments are tools to help you make
decisions about managing risk and increasing safety. Always use
professional judgment. Risk is not static and may change. Risk
Assessments are not referrals
- If you are not trained in risk assessment or safety planning
methods contact the designated Safeguarding Professional in your service
or team
- Always explain the limits of confidentiality with the victim or young person
- Reassure the victim or child that the violence is not their fault
- Record all information, referrals, assessments and interventions
- Always consider additional vulnerabilities of the victim/child including mental health, substance misuse, disabilities, BME
- Going through a risk assessment with a victim may help them to
think through their situation and make decisions about their safety and
well being
- Before going through any assessment ensure the victim:
1. Has time
2. Is safe to talk
3. Is alone
4. Knows where the perpetrator and children are
5. Understands why you are going through a risk assessment
- Risk assessments should be conducted regularly and used as a prompt for further questioning and risk management
