The Sanctury Project
The Sanctuary Project
The Sanctuary Project assists repeat victims of domestic violence and hate crime to feel safe and remain in their homes, without having to make themselves voluntarily homeless. It is not limited to council or Housing Association tenants and includes any person who is threatened with violence.
The main feature of the project is the creation of a 'Sanctuary Room', which consists of having an internal door replaced with a solid core door, reversing it to open outwards, so that the door jamb acts as an additional barrier. Two Euro-profile locks are fitted to the top and bottom of the door, keyed to the same key with thumb turns on the inside along with three large steel hinges, hang bolts and a memo door viewer. This provides a safe room or 'Sanctuary' for victims to call for and await the arrival of police.
The 'Sanctuary Project' is not seen as an immediate response, but a long-term solution to improving the client's quality of life.
