Occupational therapy

What is occupational therapy?

The aim of occupational therapy is to enable you to live as independently as possible - at home, in employment or in education.

Occupational therapists help people who have difficulties with practical everyday tasks.  This maybe due to a physical disability, a medical condition, a mental health problem or a learning disability.  Provisions include:

  • information and advice about how to do things differently so it's easier for you to live at home and manage any difficulties you may have, such as, difficulties getting in and out of bed, getting on and off the toilet, difficulties with your personal care or negotiating steps and stairs.
  • provision of equipment or minor adaptations to help with your daily living and personal care needs, such as, specialised shower chairs, commodes, raised toilet seats, hoists, showerboards and bathlifts.
  • adaptations to your home such as ramps, stairlifts, level access showers, and adapted kitchens.

Occupational therapy is a service that may be provided as part of a Reablement package.

Our aim is to ensure that you will be able to live as independently as possible. Our Reablement service is designed to give you the confidence to manage as many tasks as possible on your own.
