We are currently looking for Headteachers and Governors to volunteer to sit on Education Appeal Panels
What do we do?
The Panel is an independent body set up to consider appeals by parents against decisions made by the Education Authority / School Governing Body. Their work involves hearing appeals relating to either a decision not to admit a child to a particular school or a decision not to reinstate a child who has been permanently excluded from a school.
Each Panel is made up of three members. There is no age limit for panelists and we would like the panels to reflect the diversity of the borough. Full training is provided for new members of the Panel with refresher training held regularly.
How often will I have to serve as a Panel member?
You will be contacted by Democratic Services when we need to put an Appeal Panel together and you can choose to serve as a panelist as few or many times as you like.
Exclusion appeals can take place at any time during the year.
Admission appeals can also take place at any time during the year but they generally occur May / June / July and September.
I am interested, what happens next?
