Information on the Data Protection Act
The Data Protection Act 1998 provides you with the right to ask to see the information we hold about you. As well as your right to see information held about you, the council is obliged to comply with the information commissioner's eight principles of good practice for processing personal data. These are that personal data must be:
- fairly and lawfully processed
- processed for limited purposes
- adequate, relevant and not excessive
- accurate
- not kept longer than necessary
- processed in accordance with the data subject's rights
- secure
- not transferred to countries without adequate protection
Full details are available from the Information Commissioner's Office.
If you believe that, we hold information about you, and would like to make a subject access request, please download, print and complete the subject access request form.
Original proof of identify and address is required to ensure that we only give information to the correct person. This will need to be provided in person, e.g. valid photo ID driving licence or passport and a recent utility bill, bank statement or council tax bill showing your name and address.
Under the Data Protection Act, the Council is entitled to request a £10 fee for a subject access request. Harrow Council charges £10 for processing each separate subject access request. Cheques should be made payable to "Harrow Council". The fee is not refundable if the result of the search shows that there is no information to be supplied.
Once completed, please bring the subject access request form (along with evidence of identity and a £10 fee) to the Information Management Team (DPA) - our locations details on the right of this page.
An individual's personal data is exempt from release under the Freedom of Information Act and the Environmental Information Regulations.
