Community tension

Definition of community tension

Community cohesion and harmony is essential for the maintenance of a peaceful and prosperous society. The term community tension is a label to describe the opposite state.

Community tension can develop when a lack of trust develops between diverse communities or the institutions they rely on.  It can lead to disorder and instability.

As a local authority we are responsible for monitoring community tension.  Together with the police and other partners we map and monitor potential threats to social stability.  We then devise and implement solutions where necessary.
