Non-payment of Council Tax

If you do not pay your Council tax, we will send a reminder notice; this must be paid within seven days.  If you do not pay the reminder on time a summons will be issued and you will then be asked to pay the full outstanding amount for the year with additional summons costs.

If you pay the reminder and default again, then a final notice or summons will be issued.

You will then be asked to pay the full outstanding amount for the year with additional summons costs. The summons will also tell you the court address; court date and the amount the council are seeking to recover.

We would like to try and resolve any query without the need for you to attend Court so do please contact us.

Important notice:

The council will always take recovery action and do all that is possible to recover the debt. If you have any information that you would like to tell us about, please contact us.

Recovery Policy

We may ask you for details of your income and expenditure so that we can see what monthly amount you can pay and checking that you are receiving all discounts, exemptions and relief that you may be entitled to.
