What other discounts are available
All discounts must be applied for within twenty-one days of the change in circumstances.
Other discounts
Some people aged over 18 can be ignored when counting the number of adults living in a property. If someone living with you falls into one of the following categories then they may not be counted or are disregarded for Council Tax purposes and you can claim the 25% discount on your bill.
Important - A 25% discount cannot be awarded if, after ignoring all discounted people, two adults remain as living in the property. If there are more than two adults you will not be charged more.
Description of disregard:
- 18/19 year olds
- In receipt of child benefit
- In detention or prison
- Hospital patient
- In nursing or care home
- In a hostel or night shelter
- Youth trainee
- Apprentice
- School and college leavers link
- Students
- Student nurses
- Care workers and carers
- Severely mentally impaired
- Members of religious communities
- Diplomats and visiting forces
