How the council can help carers
Carers Needs Assessments - What is included
A carers needs assessment will identify if you are eligible for support services. You should have a carers needs assessment if
- you are providing, or intending to provide, a regular and substantial amount of care; and
- the person you care for is eligible for community care or other services even if they do not receive them
As part of the carers assessment, care management will need to establish the extent of your caring role and the impact it has on you.
Preparing for an assessment
Your carers assessment is an opportunity to tell care management about the things that could make caring easier for you. Some things you may want to think about before discussing your situation might be:
- do you get enough sleep?
- is your health affected in other ways?
- are you able to get out and about, or follow your own interests?
- do you get any time for yourself?
- are your other relationships affected?
- do you want information about benefits?
- are you worried you may have to give up work?
