Sustainable Community Strategy 2020

Working together & working with you

By 2020 much will have happened in the world, in London and in Harrow.

The Sustainable Community Strategy is an unusual document it looks some 11 years into the future.  Most of the time, local decison makers look to much shorter timescales, such as the period to the next budget, the next inspection and the next election.

The Sustainable Community Strategy sets the vision for the borough, provides the overarching strategic framework for Harrow, and influences all our major objectives.

The Harrow Strategic Partnership refreshed the Sustainable Community Strategy in 2009 to reflect the recent changes in partnership working, nationally and locally, and to ensure it can play as significant a role in the future as it has in the past.

Two events open to all stakeholders in the community were held on the 11th and 12th November 2008.  These events provided an opportunity to discuss and shape the aspirations for Harrow in 2020.

The outcomes from these events, plus material drawn from the resident's panel, interviews with experts an opinion formers, Quality of Life MORI Survey findings and recent consultation events e.g. the Local Development Framework, were used to develop the new distinct vision for Harrow.

The draft Sustainable Community Strategy was further consulted on from the 22nd January to the 10th March 2009.

The final strategy was endorsed by the HSP Board on the 19th March 2009 and adopted by the full Council on the 2nd April 2009.
