HSP Projects
Mental Health Employment Support Co-ordinator
The aim of this project is to reduce worklessness of Harrow residents experiencing mental health problems through an innovative and early intervention service, uniquely integrating vocational and psychological interventions, called the Mental Health Employment Support Coordinator (ESC). The ESC service is a key element of the government's national Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme to improve citizens' economic and mental well-being, developed from a strong evidence-base with a focus on the vocational needs of diverse populations such as Harrow's.
Harrow currently has a serious shortage of vocational support services for people with mental health problems who experience inequalities in their access to the labour market. It is expected that demand will dramatically increase as a result of the new incapacity benefit reassessments on top of the economic downturn.
