Harrow Council performance
What others think
A number of different government bodies are involved in monitoring and assessing the quality of our services. The main ones are these:
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulates adult care services provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies and voluntary organisations
The Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted) inspects and regulates services which care for children and young people, and those providing education and skills for learners of all ages.
The Department for Education (DfE) is responsible for education and children's services. Information about schools, including exam results, is available on the DfE website.
The Audit Commission regulates the audit arrangements for local authorities and publishes research reports. Past reports on the Council can be found on the Audit Commission's site. The report of the Council's auditors is available below. The Government has announced that the Audit Commission is to be abolished.
From April 2009 until May 2010 an annual review of all services within the borough, whether provided by the Council or others, was in force and was known as the Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA). The first assessments were published in December 2009 and (at the time of writing) are still available on the oneplace website. CAA was abolished in May 2010 and the OnePlace website will not be further updated.
The Annual Audit letter, issued by the Council's external auditors, summarises the conclusions and significant issues arising from audits of the Council.
