Nationality Checking Service

Nationality Checking Service – Frequently Asked Questions

If I use this service, will my application receive priority?
No, applications sent using the Nationality Checking Service do not receive priority at the Border and Immigration Agency compared with applications sent individually. However if your application is correctly complete in every detail it is more likely to be processed quickly.

If I use the Nationality Checking Service is my application for Citizenship more likely to be accepted?
No, if you use the service there is no guarantee that the application is more likely to be successful. Harrow Council will not be held responsible if your application is unsuccessful, nor be liable for a refund of the fee you have paid for the service.

Will Harrow Council complete the application form for me?
No, the purpose of the service is to check your application form, not to apply on your behalf.

Can I bring in application forms for checking on behalf of members of my family?
Yes, you can on behalf of children under 18, but every adult applicant (all those aged 18 or over) must attend our office in person with their own application form and supporting documents.

Is the service only available at Harrow Council?
No, the service is also available from many other Register Offices (for example in the London Boroughs of Brent, Barnet and Hillingdon). You do not have to use the service in the borough in which you live.

Do I have to use this service?
No, you are entitled to complete your application form independently and submit both the form and original documents directly to the Home Office (further details are available on the Home Office website).

Can I get other kinds of immigration advice from Harrow Council, for example on asylum or visas?
No. Harrow Council is currently not licensed to offer any further immigration advice beyond the checking of completed citizenship application forms.
