Fostering
Becoming a foster carer
Harrow Council is looking for individuals and families who are interested in becoming foster carers for children and teenagers.
This means looking after someone else's child in your own home whilst their parents, or usual carers are not able to look after them. This may be for a very short period or long term, depending on the circumstances.
A home study report will be necessary and a series of character references made before being approved as a carer.
There are children living in Harrow that may need help for many different reasons. It may be that their parents are unable to care for them, the children may be experiencing abuse at home, experiencing difficult family relationships or a child may be so physically or emotionally demanding that the parents need regular breaks.
The children could be any age up to 18, and from a variety of backgrounds. The things they have experienced may have given them nightmares, made them withdrawn or clingy, or difficult and attention seeking. Some children may have mild to moderate disabilities.
Whatever the reason, these children are at a crucial stage of their lives. They need someone outside the family they can turn to - someone who'll give them the extra love, support, and stability that they need at this difficult time in their lives.
