Harrow Planning Services - Place Shaping

The shape of things to come

Harrow Planning Services is part of the new exciting Place Shaping Directorate.

Working together with your input, help and support, it is our aim to create a London Borough that is not only a great place to live, work and learn in but also to visit. A place to be proud of, with an enthusiastic and positive vibe for future generations to enjoy.

Building on and enhancing its existing solid community and business foundations, by 2025, it is envisaged that Harrow will be a highly sustainable outer London Borough.

Redevelopment and regeneration opportunities will provide better access to a range and choice of high quality sustainable affordable housing, local jobs, improved customer friendly services and much needed recreational and cultural facilities. Residents and visitors alike will experience and benefit from an improved quality of life and environment.

Investment and re-generation in retail areas is proposed to create a pleasant relaxed experience for not only those of us who live in Harrow, but for those who visit our busy modern shopping centres from adjoining boroughs. Creation of outdoor seating areas within retail centres will bring a sense of community and vitality to the area. With the regeneration of retail areas comes the creation of jobs and career opportunities for local residents.

We as a council working with our key partners, will endeavour to use our influence to attract both public and private sector sustainable businesses into the area. A blue print for the long term development of our Borough known as 'The Local Development Framework Core Strategy' has been drawn up. This will show potential investors that Harrow has a determination to revitalise key commercial areas, during this year a new design guide will be drawn up for the Town Centre and planning briefs for Wealdstone and Stanmore district centres.

Promoting our green and environmental issues, communal areas and the streets that we live in will be enhanced with additional greenery, street furniture and colour, making the walk to work or school a pleasant uplifting experience.

Residential development investment will bring a facelift to the borough. New build affordable homes will provide families with high end quality living and private/communal amenity space.

To enhance learning facilities for students of Harrow, investment in educational buildings to modernise, improve appearance and create a more functional use of space is proposed for a number of schools and colleges throughout the borough. Investing in our students and creating a clean contemporary environment for them to grow in is investing in the future of Harrow.
