Extended Schools

Introduction to Extended Schools in Harrow

'An extended school is one that provides a range of activities and services often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families and the wider community' (DfES Prospectus 2005)

Schools are typically at the heart of the community they serve and are ideally placed to offer access to a range of extended services that can have a positive impact on standards and the life chances of children, young people and families.

By 2010, all Harrow children and young people should have access to a range of extended services in and around their school.

Schools are not expected to provide or offer all services from their own sites, but will work with other agencies, service providers, community organisations, parents and carers to ensure that services which are needed are available locally.
