How to register your baby
It is a legal requirement to register the birth of your child within 42 days of their birth. You will be required to register the birth in the borough in which the baby was born.
Babies born in Northwick Park hospital
If your child was born in Northwick Park hospital you will be required to register the birth at Brent Register office. Northwick Park hospital is situated in the borough of Brent.
Babies born in the borough of Harrow
Babies born in the borough of Harrow will be registered by Harrow register office registrars. To register a birth please contact our register office to book an appointment. You will receive the birth certificate at the time of the appointment.
Babies born outside of the borough of Harrow
If your baby was born outside the borough of Harrow (including Northwick Park Hospital ) you may use our services to make a declaration of the birth. This will mean the Harrow register office registrars will record the details and then forward them to the borough in which the baby was actually born. When the relevant borough is in receipt of these details they will register your baby's birth and send the birth certificate to your home address.
If you wish to make a declaration please contact our register office to book an appointment. You will not receive the birth certificate at the time of the appointment, it will be posted to your home address when the declaration has been processed by the relevant borough.
Who can register the birth?
The following people can register the birth:
- the baby's mother
- either of the parents if they are married at the time of the birth
- the mother and father together if they are not married to each other at the time of the birth
