The Launch of the Black History Season 2010 will be promoting events throughout October reflecting the theme for 2010: 'The Importance of Education to Africans with a link to Britain '.

At the launch on 30th September, Pinner resident John Roberts QC, who was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Thames Valley University will be recognised during a packed programme featuring the History of Supplementary Schools, poetry, music and key presentation - 'Haiti: Learning About The Other Story - From The Black Jacobins To Now' followed by a Q&A. Refreshments during networking 6:00PM - 6:30PM seranaded by Harrow Youth Gospel Choir. RSVP to help catering arrangements.

The A-Connexion's Global Village invites you to its monthly Film Club (refreshments, film, discussion) to watch Ruby Bridges based on the true story of 6-year-old Ruby Bridges, who in 1960 walked into an all-white New Orleans school as a mob screamed racist threats. She had to contend with a bigoted administrator and fellow students who had been taught to hate but was taught by a sympathetic teacher and supported by concerned parents. The discussion will be led by Dr Morgan Dalphinis, an experienced educator and will centre around the question "Can separate schools in the UK be justified in light of the landmark Brown vrs Board of Education case?" WHEAT MENTOR SUPPORT TRUST presents Education in Britain Through Supplementary Schools & Mentoring: a talk on the importance of education to Africans and why they set up supplementary schools in the UK ; a tribute to the pioneers of supplementary schools such as John La Rose; and the importance of mentoring in education; followed by a Question & Answer session. AKOBEN AWARDS presents African History: Did you know? : Launch of edu-tainment CD entitled African History: Did you know? the CD can be listened to in the car, tube, at home, in school etc., educating and informing listeners - Africans, non Africans, young people and adults, on a wide breadth of African history and achievement, and the importance of education. THE HARROW AFRICAN-CARIBBEAN ASSOCIATION [HACAS] invites you to "HIGH EXPECTATIONS": event consisting of speakers on African Achievement and Education.
